Equality of outcome vs equality of opportunity
Is equality actually good?
Equality of outcome VS equality of opportunity?
You will hear the words “equality” and “equity” thrown around. They seem like basically the same thing, but they are anything but. Essentially those two words are opposites.
Should everyone be equal? That is a fair question, which at face, value has an easy answer. Of course, YES right? Let’s dive into this by breaking down these questions and topics about equality and equity.
The difference between equality and equity?
- Equality is the American idea of treating everyone equally and respecting individual’s rights.
- Equity takes away individual rights and disperses everything earned. Equity rejects private property.
Equality needs to be separated into categories
Equality of opportunity is different from equality of outcome. Equality of opportunity means everyone has the same starting line. Equality of outcome means everyone finishes at the exact same time. Do we want to respect each individual’s free agency and allow them to be individuals, or do we want to control everyone and make the identical?
Each American deserves to start at the same place, but they absolutely do not need to end up in the same situation. We should all be against equality of outcome. Not because we don’t love people, but because we do! Liberals preach individuality and take it away at the exact same time. Let those who want different get different. It is not up to us or government to say what people want or where they should end up. This is up to each individual.
Government’s job in equality
Part of the government’s job is to establish the groundwork and infrastructure and then get out of the way. The handful of people in the upper echelon of government cannot outthink, outwork, or outsmart the millions of inventors, business owners, and entrepreneurs. IF the government does a good job establishing the baseline then everyone should have an equal opportunity. This is good. This is right. This is what we all should want. Set the stage for competition, then let Americans compete.
- “This is the way.”
Not Government’s job
Everyone should NOT want equal outcome. Making sure everyone has the same things at the end is not good. That is anti-capitalism. That is communism. It has never worked and never will work. It is absolutely NOT the government’s job to make sure all Americans have the same amount of anything except opportunity.
What Micah Valentine Believes:
I believe every American regardless of race, color, gender, etc. should have the same chance to succeed. I believe every citizen of our great country should have an equal opportunity to thrive, invent, create, build, and grow.
I do not believe everyone should have the same outcome. Not everyone wants the same outcome. To force everyone to have the same outcome would be wrong. This would remove choice and insert indifference and dominance. No ability to chose is communism.
As the government grows and takes over industries our freedoms and choices slowly get eroded and eradicated from our lives. As the government increases taxes and takes more of our earned wealth, it absorbs that money into itself. The government grows and our wealth shrinks. As our wealth shrinks the poor get poorer and become dependent. At this point our money gets redistributed to those in need. Taking from those earning and giving to those not working until the point where everyone has the same. Identical = equity in this case.
