About Micah

Glad to virtually meet you!

Hopefully soon we will meet in person.  Unfortunately, the last 12+ months have had too much “virtual” interactions. Please introduce yourself to me at my next speech and ask me some questions important to you.  I look forward to it!

I prefer to talk about others over myself, but I’m asking for your vote and you deserve to know who you’re voting for.

Wife | Daughters

I have four awesome daughters, and a wonderful wife.  If I was completely honest, I fully expected to have boys, but God had other plans for me.  Clearly, I had some lessons to learn.  The Valentine girls are Karma, Veraty, Xela, and Nova.

My wife, Tiana, and I had girls every 2 years, thought we were done, but were surprised with Nova 5 years later.

I sincerely try as hard as I can to be a good dad, teacher, mentor, and roll model.  I want to be a great teacher, with great patience and communication.  I want them to understand all the most important aspects of life and feel love and joy.  I want them to understand work, grit, love, and have a strong belief in Christ. My wife and I work every day on instilling confidence in them, which we believe is one of the most important things a kid can have.  I believe there are three traits kids need to succeed in life which are: A Testimony in Christ, Grit, and Confidence.

I am obviously learning a completely different form of communication.  This is not a past tense statement, I am still definitely learning!

My wife, Tiana, really is the glue of our family.  She has such great love and dedication to our family.  She is an example of selflessness.  I strongly believe God’s most important mission is to bring His children back to Him.  He put women in charge of the thing he cares most about.  I’m just grateful He put Tia with me.  I could not do it without her.

Eternal Family

Overview | Household

I was born in 1978 and I have lived an exciting and fulfilled life. I have been fortunate to have traveled, and lived several years, outside the United States.  I have wonderful parents who are still happily married and live in the same home I grew up in near Olympia, WA.  I’m now married to a beautiful wife and wonderful mom who takes care of our entire family.  Her parents are also still married and ironically, still live in the same home she grew up in.

I would describe my upbringing as very middle class, but very adventurous.  My father served in the Navy during Vietnam.  He was medically discharged in his early 20’s and began to build, grow, buy and sell businesses.  Our household income was obviously directly related to the success, purchase, or sale of the business at the time.  Sometimes very poor. Other times we had extra.

One of the most notable businesses we had was a hunting and fishing resort in remote B.C. Canada.  We had 2 homes at this time and I literally grew up in float planes, chasing bears up trees, shooting porcupines, driving snow machines, catching world record fish, hunting large animals, playing in 10 feet powder, and more.  Now I watch adventure shows on TV and recall similar experiences.

Businesses | Work History

I was very fortunate to “semi-retired” before my 40’s.  From an early age I have always been interested in things like efficiency, leadership, independence, and money.  I have had a lot of businesses over the years with varying degrees of success.  Probably my first successful business was called CMC auto detailing.  My 2 best friends, Carson Seaberg and Cale Burbidge started a business with me detailing cars.  Our main client was my dad’s repossession business.  I saw an opportunity to clean the cars his company was repossessing, and I started cleaning them between games, practices, and girlfriends.  Soon I was getting other customers and I couldn’t keep up so, like every high school student, I turned to my best friends.  Before anyone knew it, we had a full-blown company, and we were making all the money we needed through our high school years.

I think it’s more than fair to say that I’ve always had different types of thought patterns than most people.  In fact, I’ve only had two jobs over the course of my life what were hourly.  All other jobs I’ve had, I’ve created.  Hourly just do not make sense to me.  Someone tells me how much money I’m worth and I just accept that?  But what if I think I’m worth more than that?  The age-old question nature vs nurture comes into play here.  Was I born thinking different than everyone else or did I learn this from my dad and environment?  Either way, if I need money, I just go make it.  I figure out a way to create the income I need, and I do not let the normal bounds of society get in the way of the need I have.

Now I own a couple successful marketing companies; Ascend Marketing and Consulting and Ramp, LLC.  These companies have given me free time to pursue passions such as coaching, community involvement, and politics.

College | Education | Mission | Hardships

I graduated from the Elma School System. Elma Elementary, Elma Middle School, and Elma High School.  In Conservative Grays Harbor County.

I had plans to graduate HS, immediately leave for 2 years, return, accept a full ride scholarship, play soccer and graduate with major in business management.  BUT…  I had a terrible injury my senior year and I was not able to run for over 2 years after injury and surgeries.  I was also not medically cleared to leave for a church service mission.  My scholarship to U Dub was lost, I could barely walk, and I wasn’t able to leave on a mission and advance my life. It was a challenge.

My goals had not changed however, I was going to major in business management and play soccer for free in college. I decided to bet on myself, get healthy, and go to what was the best junior college in Washington State for soccer, Clark Community College.  I needed to get fit and healthy, have a dynamite season, score a bunch of goals in order to make universities want me again – That’s exactly what I did!

After a very successful Freshman season I finally left for a 2-year mission of service.  I returned and continued to cultivate the interest I had from several 4-year universities.  In the end, I went with my heart and made a surprising decision.  I was going to Southern Virginia University.

It was the right decision for me.  Small class sizes, great professors, challenging environment, and I was able to be there with my amazing bride, Tiana.  I completed an internship with State Farm and graduated with a 3.8.  I majored in Business Management and minored in Spanish.  With a degree and wind in my sales, I was finally ready to take on the world!

Athletics

Sports have always played a huge roll in my life.  At an early age I played every sport I could. I especially loved wrestling, basketball, football, and soccer.  As it turned out, soccer was my ticket to a full ride scholarship and it also took me to Australia for a brief stint.  After college I played a season on a semi-pro soccer team, The Seawolves (previously the Yakima Reds).  As my young family grew with the spare tire around my waist, I realized I needed to focus on my career and hang up my cleats.  Now I live vicariously through my 4 daughters.  I love coaching them, and it has become a great outlet and teaching tool.

I attribute much of my competitive nature to sports and my desire to win.  I was always very concerned about winning and I love the psychology that comes with a winning mindset.  Fortunately, I had lots of successes in sports, winning 2 WIAA national championships and becoming team captain and All-American.

Side Note: Although I still love to play sports, climb mountains, and be active, one of my all-time favorite things to do is watch and dissect a good football game from my hammock!

Friends | Brothers

I am the oldest of four boys.  Connor, Evan, and Lane are two, five, and ten years younger than me, respectively. I also grew up next to my best friends Carson (cousin) and Cale.  We had a great childhood.  I’m told we were constantly in trouble.  I do remember getting the yard stick to the back side several times, in fact, I have the honor of being the last student to ever be spanked in Elma Elementary.  Cale’s dad, Lyle gave me that spanking and now I have that little claim to fame forever!

Rather than being a troublemaker, I remember having an irresistible landscape to explore outside my door.  Our property, in conjunction with Carson’s, my grandpa’s, and Weyerhaeuser’s gave us millions of trees, logging roads, cow pastures, ponds, etc. to explore.  We had motorcycles, 22’s, backpacks with essentials and huge imaginations.  The world was our ocean, and we were hell bent on exploring every inch of it!

We are also very close to our friends.  A group of us raised our kids together.  We still hang out as much as possible and vacation together.  We love our friends and the joy they bring to our lives.

Mission | Testimony | Savior

I am a Christian.  I believe in Jesus Christ.  I believe he was the only perfect person to walk the earth.  He was the perfect example, and we should try to live like him.  That should be our goal.  That is my goal.  Our forefathers also believed in Christ.  I believe I am better today than I was last year and every year I try to improve myself and make my weaknesses become strong.

I served a mission for my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  My mission was in El Salvador. I speak fluent Spanish as a result.  I was put into many positions of leadership, and I learned a lot about myself, and loving others.  I am very grateful for the opportunity to have served the wonderful people of El Salvador and for my ability to communicate in Spanish.  I also have a tremendous soft spot in my heart and deep love for the Spanish community.  Service turns into love and I certainly have developed that.

I have also served in the local church in a variety of capacities.  I’ve essentially served in everything from the Bishopric to a class president in my youth.  I was a branch president and zone leader on my mission as well.  All these experiences have taught me to be like my elder brother, Jesus Christ.

Adventures Two things I love are building businesses and going on adventures.  I love to be outdoors in extreme conditions having experiences beyond most people’s comfort zones.  I thrive in finding new limitations and pushing past them. If I’m able to go rock climbing, hunting, mountain climbing, or anything else which pushes my boundaries, I’ll probably be out doing that!  Let’s hit a couple highlights.
  • World record fish
  • White Water Rafting
  • Climbed the NW’s tallest mountains
  • Backpacked thousands of miles throughout several mountain ranges
  • Hunted large game (my favorite is Bison)
  • Visited several islands throughout the Caribbean
  • Month long fishing expedition in the Artic Circle
  • Soccer in Australia
  • Swimming in Cenotes
